Lunchtime public event celebrating International Composting Week. There will be a number of stalls, demonstrations and educational materials relating to the benefits and ease of use of compost for sustainable gardens and food production for a cleaner and greener Brisbane and SEQ. There will be free giveaways of trees, compost, seed sticks and gardening guides We will be holding a competition where people who attend will be in the running to win a Bokashi Bucket or a Tumbleweed Worm Farm . Council's chairperson for Environment, Parks and Sustainability, Norm Wyndham will give a short address at about 12.30 pm about what the benefits of compost on a number of fronts ie. reducing waste to landfill by putting it to a productive purpose that combats climate change by returning nutrients back to the earth (carbon sink), reducing water use and how compost helps stop soil erosion and finally what Brisbane City Council is doing and how Council is supporting the composting industry.
